Hadith of the Day

Purity is half of faith...

Today you’re going to get a double dose of Ahadith.  The topic is extremely important to all Muslims and I hope that you all find it beneficial.

Without further ado…

1. Malik recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

“When a Muslim or the believing servant performs Wudu’ and washes his face, every sin that he looked at with his eyes will depart from his face with the water, or with the last drop of water.  When he washes his hands, every sin that his hands committed will depart from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water.  When he washes his feet , every sin to which his feet took him will depart with the water, or with the last drop of water.  Until, he ends up sinless.

This has been recorded in Al-Muwatta 1:32 and also by Muslim 1:215

2. Muslim recorded that Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

“Purity is half of faith and Al-Hamdu Lillah (all thanks are due to Allah) fill the Mizan (scale). And  Subhan Allah and Allahu Akbar (all praise is due to Allah, and Allah is the Most Great) fills what is between the heaven and the earth.  As-Sawm (the fast) is a Junnah (shield), Sabr (patience) is a light, Sadaqah (charity) is evidence (of faith) and the Qur’an is proof for, or against you.  Every person goes out in the morning and ends up selling himself, he either frees his soul or destroys it.

This has been recorded by Muslim 1:204

These Ahadtih where taken from Tafsir Ibn Kathir Vol.3

The statement cleanliness is next to Godliness does hold some wieght.  We should take care to guard our Wudu the same way we guard our salah.  It would be a shame to perform salah 5-17  times a day and none of them be excepted due to an invalid Wudu.  In Sha Allah this little note served as a reminder to you all and myself.

Or better yet a religion by its (so-called) adherents.

Ok so here’s my rant for the day.  I am so sick and tired of listening to the played out track,  featuring conservative Muslims trying to prove that Islam isn’t related to terrorism.  At this point in the game we should abandon this mission.  It’s futile.  The reality of the situation is, we live in a world infested with haters.

Similar to termites, haters crawl around trying to demolish established structures by gnawing at their foundations.  They come in various forms, each one with his own unique player hating agenda.  There is nothing we can about this infestation of ignoramuses.  Nothing, except mentally block out their foolishness and continue living our lives.  I must say, I pity the fools.

I mean I really sympathize with those poor, poor, gullible organisms.  It’s just too bad they never learned how to discern truth from hyped up propaganda.  It hurts me to my heart to know that some people still believe everything they see and hear in the media.  What a shame.  Somebody should inform those poor, confused, lost souls, that the truth rarely reveals itself on the local 11 o’clock news.  It just doesn’t happen.

I’m not saying that a group of extreme, delusional, idiots that run around blowing up stuff in the name of Allah don’t exist.  Unfortunately every religion harbors extremists.  What I do know,  is that Islam doesn’t propagate acts of terrorism.  I also know that I’m not going to lose a second of sleep agonizing over feeble-minded folks that assume all Muslims are pyscologically disturbed suicide bombers.  Those that insist on remaining hazed by the fog of media, so much so that they’re willing to alienate an entire religion, should return to grade school and learn how to deduce fact from fabrication.  As for my fellow brethren stop wasting your breath trying to explain how peaceful Islam is.  Use your da’wah to call to Tawheed (the monotheistic belief in God).  If the people don’t get it, that’s their loss.

As Salaamu Alaikum,

New Poem

There is no aphrodisiac,

Nor sweet smoky pull of a Newport jack,

That’s able to mimic this sensation,

Upon this yearning, my heart’s been patient,

More than a junkie needs her fix,

I require this bliss.

I need you, but you don’t need me,

Often times I leave you,

But you don’t leave me,

Truly man owns nothing, fool’s gold,

They abuse, abandon, and then leave me cold,

I’m destitute, ragged, they’ve used me,

But Al-Wadud, you’d never do that to me,

And that’s why I’m willing to give you this loan,

Because you’re true to your word, and by you, I’ve never been wronged,

Once a sucker for love, I needed that,

But since I’ve found truth, falsehood, I’m leaving that

No need to feed a fire, for which man is a fuel,

Unloose these shackles; I’m no longer a fool

Just a side note to the reader:  if you find yourself heartbroken, replace that object of affection with the complete love of Allah.  Fill your heart with His remembrance and you’ll never be betrayed.

I admit it…I’m an imposter

Devil's Pie (photo courtesy of graur codrin)

I know you all thought I was righteous.  What with all my naseeha, and Hadith of the Day posts you probably envisioned me to be a saint.  But guess what?  I have issues.

That’s right I said it, I have major character flaws.  You could even go as far as to say i’m a sinner.  Gasp!  My lord, shut the front door.  Umm Qamar is a sinner?  Yes I am, and so are you.  So hop off your righteous pedestals for a moment and hear me out.

Yesterday I finally did it.  I told my boyfriend of 3 years that it was over.  Finite.  Now, obviously I know that dating doesn’t exist in Islam.  You’re either married or you’re not.  That’s where my sin comes in.  Take note, I’m a still a wet behind the ears, fresh off the Jahiliyah boat, revert.  Islam is not entirely new to me, as I was raised as a Muslim.  However, I did go through a tumultuous , dark phase in my life,  where I strayed dangerously from the Siratul Mustaqueem.  It’s only through His unconditional mercy, that I was able to grasp a hold of the rope of Allah.  And this time around you’re going to have to hack my hands off this rope with a pick axe to detach me from Islam.

I’ve come too far and have been through too much, to let Shaitan hold my heart captive again.  That illicit relationship I spoke of, is the remnants of a life in bondage.  I was a slave to my own desires. In truth, having a boyfriend was a small slice of the devil’s pie I once feasted on.  Shaitan really did a number on me.  He made the dunya seem so appetizing to me. I wanted none other than t0 indulge in the ephemeral fantasies of this life.

That, my brothers and sisters is why I’m qualified to advise you as I do now.  Not because I’m so knowledgeable, but because I’ve delved deep into the ugly side of life.  I know from experience that nothing is more satisfying than worshipping Allah.  So when I come on here talking that talk of how we should  restrain ourselves from loving this world too much, you all should understand that I’m speaking sincerely from the depths of my heart.

Written with love,

By Umm Qamar, a humble servant of Allah

“The Deen is not a Game…

…and Allah is not playing with us.”  So why are we playing with him?  Why do we take the wrath of Allah lightly?  Do we think we are invincible?  Allah (SWT) warns us in the Qur’an of this dangerous game that we play when he says:

وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ (١) إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسۡرٍ (٢) إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ (٣)

“By Al’ Asr (the time).  Verily, man is in loss.  Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience.” (103:1-3)

Allah swears by time, so you know this is a serious matter.  We are all a people lost.  If we aren’t conscious of our deeds, know that surely Allah is.  Speaking from experience I know it’s easy to lose track of yourself.  It may be your intention to perform a good deed fisibilillah, but you end up sidetracked.  The Shaytan presents you with a matter that is more pressing.  This happens to me more than I should like to admit.  I make plans to sit and read Qur’an, then I remember that thing I have to do.  Or maybe I’ll have plans to devote some time to studying Arabic, but I can’t seem to free myself from the overly consuming tasks that clutter my day.  This is a vicious cycle that needs to be put to death.

We know that we do not control time.  Yet we walk around donning S’s on our chests thinking that we can avoid our outcome.  This simply isn’t true.  Perhaps you meet death with the very next step you take.  Are you prepared? Have you utilized  this loan of time, that Allah has given you out of his mercy, to the best of your abilities.  Like our Prophet (SAW) said: “What have you prepared for it?”  It being the Day when you will stand in front of your maker.  Did you really worship your Lord the way he should be worshipped?  Or were you just playing around?  Taking your deen for a joke.  To impart the words of a local Imam- “the deen is not a game, and Allah is not playing with us.”  This serves as a reminder for myself to dedicate the hours of my day to what is more beneficial to me,  dhikr Allah.  My last breath could escape my body at anytime.  Trust me I want to be prepared.

4 Simple Steps for Success

My Thoughts on Surah At-Taghabun, The Mutual Loss and gain

As Salaamu Alaikum everyone.  I have some great news.  I’ve  just discovered the secret to success.

Actually it’s not a discovery.  Allah (SWT) gives us the keys to a fruitful life and afterlife many times over in His book.  You all have read the Qur’an or the meaning of it at least a few times, so this knowledge is nothing new.  You see Allah speaks simultaneously in the Qur’an about winners and losers.  He says:

“(And remember) the Day when He will gather you (all) on the Day of Gathering, that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain (i.e. loss for the disbelievers as they will enter the Hell-fire and gain for the believers as they will enter Paradise). And whosoever believes in Allah and performs righteous good deeds, He will expiate from him his sins, and will admit him to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) to dwell therein forever; that will be the great success.” (64:9)

Subhanallah, there clear as day, are the first two steps.

  1. Believe in Allah.  That is believe in the oneness of Allah; and know in your heart that only He is worthy of worship.
  2. Perform righteous  good deeds.  If you believe in Him wholeheartedly, you’ll want to please him with your actions, right?

Easy enough.  So what are the third and fourth steps? Don’t worry Allah never leaves his servants hanging.  He tells us:

“So keep your duty to Allah and fear Him as much as you can; listen and obey, and spend in charity; that is better for yourselves.  And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, then they are the successful ones.” (64:16)

Look how merciful Allah is.  He advises us with precise language.  How could we fail with such guidance?

     3.  Fear Allah, meaning listen to and obey Him.

     4.  Spend your wealth wisely by giving charity. That’s a no brainer.  Allah (SWT) has blessed us with innumerable bounties.  The least we could do is give back.

There you have it, the dalil (proof) that Allah only wants the best for his slaves.  He gives us elementary, fool-proof directions on how to attain greatness.  The only question is… “Will we choose to be winners or losers?”

As Salaamu Alaikum and much love,

Umm Qamar

Hadith of the Day

Let’s get right to it.

Narrated Anas (RA):

I will narrate to you a Hadith I heard from Allah’s Messenger (SAW) and none other than I will  tell of it.  I heard Allah’s Messenger (SAW) saying, “From the portents of the Hour are the following : Religious knowledge will be taken away; General ignorance (in religious matters) will increase; illegal sexual intercourse will prevail; Drinking of alcoholic drinks will be common; Men will decrease in number, and women will increase in number, so much so that fifty women will be looked after by one man.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.7, Hadith No.158)

Do you not see some of these very signs rearing their ugly heads around you everyday? Do you think the Hour is near?

All That Glitters

By Umm Qamar

You went from the dope dealer,

to the one who is dealt the dope,

from the smoker,

to the one who gets smoked.

So many plans you’ve made,

so many have gone astray.

Little does man know,

the best plans, are with the one who creates day,

and the night as a cover,

whilst we seek out illicit lovers.

Ever watching is he,

and most ungrateful are we.

Making deals with the devil,

seeking worldly gain and pleasure,

and so you’ve sold your soul.

Foolish is the man who thinks, all the glitters,

is gold.

Better yet every abhors a hypocrite.  They’re the worst of the worst; they lie, break promises, and go overboard in arguments.  If one man is capable of these injustices , what bars him from participating in greater evils.  Allah says in the Qur’an (English meaning of the text):

“Allah mocks at them and gives them increase in their wrong-doings to wander blindly.” (Al-Baqarah:15)

Jokes on you player.

I was inspired to briefly touch on this topic by an awesome lecture I listened to last night  I’ve already given the OneWayToParadise da’wah effort big ups in my Top 10 Beneficial YouTubers postings.  They continue to outdo themselves with every new lecture.  Please take the time to check them out.  Come back let me know what you think.

Hadith of the Day…Jumua Edition

Insha Allah everyone who is able, is busy preparing themselves to attend Jumua.  If you are reading this from a different time zone and have already attended the congregational prayer then Alhamdulilah.  If not, here is a reminder to do so.

Narrated Salman-Al-Farsi:

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven.”

May Allah guide us all, and insha Allah, resurrect us amongst the people of the right hand.
